PTA Activities, Committees & Events

The following list includes all current PTA committees and brief descriptions of each. Parents are ALWAYS needed to help with these activities. If you are interested in helping please visit the Leadership page for the appropriate contact person. And plan on attending our PTA meetings on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 in the Media Center - it’s a great way to get to know other parents at Briarcliff!

Advocacy
This committee works to keep the PTA abreast of important issues concerning our children including what is happening in our state and local governments and the Wake County School Board regarding education policy and programs.

Book Fairs
Our Scholastic Book Fairs provide an opportunity for children to purchase books and other educational items with their classes or with their families. Books purchased at the Book Fair make fantastic holiday and birthday gifts! Our Book Fairs require a lot of parent volunteers who help students pick out books and run the cash registers both during school hours and after school on certain days. Parents are needed to help plan, set up, and volunteer throughout the week. We'd love your help!

Coffee & Grounds
Coffee & Grounds is one of our newest committees here at Briarcliff. WCPSS is responsible for the upkeep of shrubs and trees that they have planted on campus but is not responsible for the upkeep of any donated plants or mulching. This committee is charged with upkeep of donated plants, garden maintenance, aerating and seeding our fields, as well as general campus clean up and beautification. If you have a green thumb this is the committee for you!

Cultural Arts
Our Cultural Arts committee works with our art and music specialists to plan amazing school-wide cultural presentations for the year. They organize artists and writers in residence and other artistic presentations throughout the year.

Fall Fest
Fall Fest takes place around Halloween and is one of our oldest traditions and one of our students’ favorite events of the year. Students are invited to wear their (non-scary) costumes and come ready for fun. We have lots of fun fall games and activities, a DJ, a cake walk, a scavenger hunt, and a pumpkin patch. We always need lots of help with setting up and decorating!

GoPlaySave Coupon Books
GoPlaySave Coupon Books are our major Fall Fundraiser. Help is needed before the school year starts to organize distribution and then after school for the duration of the fundraiser to distribute books. If you like to keeps things organized, this project is for you.

Hospitality
The Hospitality Committee is our largest committee and exists to show our teachers and staff how much we appreciate all of their hard work throughout the year. They host a Welcome Back Breakfast for teachers and staff, as well as a catered Holiday and Teacher Appreciation Luncheon. They also plan the events during Teacher Appreciation Month. Throughout the year this committee honors our teachers and staff each month by providing them with goodies and treats in the Lounge. This is a very flexible committee that needs volunteers throughout the year to furnish food and staff the luncheons. You can help out as little or as often as your schedule allows.

Spirit Booth
The Bulldog Spirit Booth is OPEN for business!!! On Tuesday and Thursday mornings from 8:00-8:25 students can purchase (with cash or check made to Briarcliff PTA) many low-cost items needed in the classroom such as pens, pencils, pencil grips, erasers, folders, etc. and a few fun items as well. All items are available for purchase at a reasonable cost. The spirit booth also provides the school and teachers with a special way to reward positive behavior.

Spirit Nights
This committee organizes Spirit Nights by partnering with various area restaurants and businesses to help raise money for Briarcliff. Families and teachers get together outside of school for food, fellowship, and fun and raise money at the same time.

Spirit Wear
Show your Bulldog spirit by purchasing a car magnet or a t-shirt for your Briarcliff student. This is a really fun way to promote school spirit as well as have input on what products to offer.

Spring Fling
Spring Fling is a super fun night for our Briarcliff Family. We have tons of games and prizes, inflatables, and delicious food and drinks for sale. Like Fall Fest, we always need help with food, auction items, entertainment, games, and other activities.

Tutoring & Enrichment
Briarcliff is very fortunate to have parent volunteers who are willing to help students who need a little extra time mastering material and to meet with those who benefit from enrichment outside of the classroom. Our Tutoring and Enrichment program is a rewarding volunteer opportunity where you can make a difference with a student one-on-one or in small groups. Our program is designed around 30-minute weekly sessions with teacher-provided assignments or instruction in reading, writing, and/or math. Training and teacher support is provided for volunteers and there are a variety of session times available. If you have just 30 minutes each week to help a child in need please consider volunteering!  Please contact Tiffany Barber for more information.
