PTA Activities, Committees & Events 2015-2016
The following list includes all current PTA committees and brief descriptions of each. Parents are ALWAYS needed to help with these activities. If you are interested in helping please email the contact listed. Plan on attending our PTA meetings on the first Tuesday of every month at 7:00 in the Media Center - it’s a great way to get to know other parents at Briarcliff!
This committee works to keep the PTA abreast of important issues concerning our children including what is happening in our state and local governments and the Wake County School Board regarding education policy and programs. Contact Amy Kiser to become involved.
Fall & Spring Book Fairs
Our Fall Scholastic Book Fair takes place on November 2nd through 6th. Children will come with their classes to look at books and create a wish list or can go ahead and make their purchases at that time. Our Family Night will be on Thursday, November 5, from 5:30 - 8:00pm. Books purchased at the Book Fair make fantastic holiday and birthday gifts. Our Spring Book Fair will take place in May 2016. Online ordering is also available (beginning October 21) through this website, with free shipping to Briarcliff!
Our Book Fairs require a lot of parent volunteers who help students pick out books and run the cash registers both during school hours and after school on certain days. Parents are needed to help plan, set up, and volunteer throughout the week. Contact Lauron Dott or Rachel Love if you’d like to help.
Coffee and Grounds
Coffee and Grounds is one of our newest committees here at Briarcliff. WCPSS is responsible for the upkeep of shrubs and trees that they have planted on campus but is not responsible for the upkeep of any donated plants. Briarcliff has been fortunate to receive so many donated flowers and shrubs over the years. This committee is charged with upkeep of these plants, aerating and seeding our fields, as well as general campus clean up and beautification. If you have a green thumb this is the committee for you! Please contact Daniel Madding to learn more and find out how you can help.
Our Cultural Arts committee works with Mrs. Dale and Mrs. Brooks to plan amazing school-wide cultural presentations for the year. They organize artists and writers in residence and other artistic presentations throughout the year. Contact Meredith Chandler if you’d like to help.
Fall Fest takes place around Halloween and is one of our oldest traditions and one of our students’ favorite events of the year. This year Fall Fest will be on a date to be determined from 5:30-8:00. Students are invited to wear their (non-scary) costumes and come ready for fun. We have lots of fun fall games and activities, a DJ, a cake walk, a rope maze, and a pumpkin patch. If you are interested in helping please contact Cyndy Fettig
GoPlaySave Coupon Books
GoPlaySave Coupon Books are our major Fall Fundraiser. Help is needed before the school year starts to organize distribution and then after school for the duration of the fundraiser to distribute books. Contact Melanie Dunning or Erin Long to help.
The Hospitality Committee is our largest committee and exists to show our teachers and staff how much we appreciate all of their hard work throughout the year. They host a Welcome Back Breakfast for teachers and staff, as well as a catered Holiday and Teacher Appreciation Luncheon. They also plan the events during Teacher Appreciation Month. Throughout the year this committee honors our teachers and staff each month by providing them with goodies and treats in the Lounge. This is a very flexible committee that needs volunteers throughout the year to furnish food and staff the luncheons. You can help out as little or as often as your schedule allows. Please contact Elizabeth Kahn or Amber Tingle if you would like to help.

Tutoring & Enrichment
Briarcliff is very fortunate to have parent volunteers who are willing to help students who need a little extra time mastering material and to meet with those who benefit from enrichment outside of the classroom. Our Tutoring and Enrichment program is a rewarding volunteer opportunity where you can make a difference with a student one-on-one or in small groups. Our program is designed around 30-minute weekly sessions with teacher-provided assignments or instruction in reading, writing, and/or math. Training and teacher support is provided for volunteers and there are a variety of session times available. If you have just 30 minutes each week to help a child in need please consider volunteering! Please contact Meredith Chandler for more information.
